OregonRocketry flies from April to November from three locations around Oregon. Every OregonRocketry launch event is conducted under the auspices of either the National Association of Rocketry or Tripoli Rocketry Association, following all applicable safety regulations. The club provides the ground support equipment for most common needs, and handles all of the coordination with land owners, first responders, and three or four letter acronym organizations like the FAA.
OROC Launch Locations
Garden Home Park
On the second Saturday of the month from May to November, excluding September, we host a low power launch at Garden Home Park. Our launch events at this community park can support small model rocket flights on motors up to a B, with the possibility of flying a C on larger, heavier, models by permission of the on site launch director. Launches usually start at 10am, and run until 1pm, unless the weather interfeers. Keep an eye on our launch announcements or become a member to receive launch announcements in the week leading up to the launch. Please note that launching at this park outside of our events is strictly prohibited by the THPRD.
Sheridan Oregon
Once a year in September, we host a high power launch in the country side between Sheridan and Perrydale just 45 miles southwest of Portland. This launch, known as Fillible’s Folly, is the premiere family launch for the pacific northwest with a large flight line of low, mid and high power flights in an easily accessible location. This location typically has an FAA waiver allowing flights to over 5000′ above ground level, and a launch layout that can easily support up to L motors.
Brothers Oregon
Several times a year, in April, May, June, July, October, and November our members gather in the remote sage brush a few miles outside of Brothers Oregon, approximately 40 miles east of Bend. The Brothers site is Oregon’s premier launch site for large, complex and high altitude rocket projects. A standing FAA waiver to 20,500′ AGL is in place for all launches, with a high waiver available by request to well over 33,000′ AGL. The site layout can support up to an N motor at public launches.
Group Launches
Got a small group ready to fly? Perhaps a scouting group or a school team? OROC can support that at any of our location! Low power launches at Garden Home Park are always free, just give us a heads up about your group’s visit by sending an email to the board. High power launches both at Brothers and Sheridan can also support your small groups, we ask that you coordinate your group’s waivers ahead of time and bring a single payment for everyone attending under the umbrella of your group. For more detail on that process, see the group launch process page.
